If you are Patient (and I cannot stress enough) and fair and kind they and sometimes their families are so grateful and relieved to have you they make it worth your while. If you can do this even one or two days a week it would at least give you pocket money and get you outside of your problems for a little bit. Dog/animal sitting right now is good too because people are going on vacation so there are more opportunities right now. I know you're in a small rural town, but there are still old people who need help virtually anywhere and for pet sitting, you could possible travel a little to the next town or two over which might have a wealthier population.
